इन्द्रध्वज इवोत्सृष्ट: केतु: सर्वधनुष्मताम् | धरणीं न स पस्पर्श शरसंघै: समावृत:
sañjaya uvāca | indradhvaja ivotsṛṣṭaḥ ketuḥ sarvadhanuṣmatām | dharaṇīṃ na sa pasparśa śarasaṅghaiḥ samāvṛtaḥ ||
Sañjaya sprach: Wie der Stab von Indras Banner, abgeschlagen und fortgeworfen, so fiel jenes höchste Feldzeichen unter allen Bogenschützen und ließ die Erde dröhnen. Und doch berührte er, obwohl gefallen, nicht den Boden, denn sein Leib war ringsum von dichten Pfeilbündeln bedeckt.
