यस्मिंस्ते कुण्डले बद्धे तदा द्विजवरेण वै । उस समय उनकी दृष्टि बेलोंपर ही लगी हुई थी (वे कहाँ गिरते हैं

yasmiṁs te kuṇḍale baddhe tadā dvijavareṇa vai |

Vaiśaṃpāyana sprach: „Damals hatte der vortreffliche Brahmane jene beiden Ohrringe an eine Hirschhaut gebunden. Sein Blick war nur auf die Ranken gerichtet; er achtete nicht darauf, wohin die abgeschnittenen Schlingpflanzen fielen. So fiel fast alles, was er abtrennte, auf eben jene Hirschhaut, an der die beiden Ohrringe festgebunden waren.“
