A ruler’s legitimacy and success rest on self-mastery—discipline of mind, speech, and action, along with restraint of the senses—because such inner governance enables the ruler to keep the people’s hearts content and society stable.
Vyāsa describes the character and rule of King Avikṣit, emphasizing that he maintained the satisfaction of his subjects through personal discipline and ethical conduct, presenting him as an exemplar of rajadharma.
