धृतराष्ट्रस्य स्पर्शाभिलाषः — Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Request for Touch and Permission for Tapas

पर्युपासनकाले तु विपरीतं विधीयते । आमर्दकाले राजेन्द्र व्यपसर्पेत्‌ ततः परम्‌

Transliteration

dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca | paryupāsanakāle tu viparītaṃ vidhīyate | āmardakāle rājendra vyapasarpet tataḥ param ||

Translation

Dhṛtarāṣṭra sprach: „In der Zeit des Beobachtens und Abwartens gegenüber dem Feind soll man einen entgegengesetzten Weg einschlagen, damit der Gegner nicht in Bequemlichkeit und Selbstvertrauen verbleibt. O Bester der Könige, wenn die Gefahr besteht, dass die eigene Ehre zermalmt wird, soll man sich von dort zurückziehen und danach Zuflucht bei einem anderen befreundeten König suchen.“
