Kuntī–Vyāsa Dialogue on Durvāsā’s Boon and Karṇa’s Birth

माल्यैर्गन्धैश्व विविधैरर्चयित्वा यथाविधि । कुल्यानि तेषां संयोज्य तदाचख्युर्महीपते:,जो लोग राजाकी आज्ञासे हरद्वारमें भेजे गये थे, वे उन तीनोंकी हड्डियोंको संचित करके वहाँसे फिर गंगाजीके तटपर गये। फिर भाँति-भाँतिकी मालाओं और चन्दनोंसे विधिपूर्वक उनकी पूजा की। पूजा करके उन सबको गंगाजीमें प्रवाहित कर दिया। इसके बाद हस्तिनापुरमें लौटकर उन्होंने यह सब समाचार राजाको कह सुनाया

vaiśampāyana uvāca |

mālyair gandhaiś ca vividhair arcayitvā yathāvidhi |

kulyāni teṣāṃ saṃyojya tadācakhyur mahīpateḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana sprach: Nachdem sie sie vorschriftsgemäß mit vielerlei Girlanden und duftenden Salben geehrt hatten, sammelten und ordneten sie ihre Überreste und berichteten dann dem Herrscher der Erde. Die Stelle betont die Pflicht der Überlebenden, die Totenpflichten ehrfürchtig zu vollenden — und so das Nachspiel des Krieges durch rechten Ritus, Gedenken und wahrhaftige Meldung an den König in eine Tat des Dharma zu verwandeln.
