ह॒त्वाग्निं विधिवत सर्वे प्रययुस्ते यथाक्रमम् । उदड़्मुखा निरीक्षन्त उपवासपरायणा:,तत्पश्चात् रात बीतनेपर पूर्वाह्लकालकी क्रिया पूरी करके विधिपूर्वक अग्निमें आहुति देनेके पश्चात् वे सब लोग क्रमश: आगे बढ़ने लगे। उन सबने रात्रिमें उपवास किया था और सभी उत्तर दिशाकी ओर मुँह करके उधर ही देखते हुए चले जा रहे थे

Vaiśampāyana sprach: Nachdem sie vorschriftsgemäß die Opfergaben in das heilige Feuer dargebracht hatten, brachen sie alle in der rechten Reihenfolge auf. Die Nacht hindurch hatten sie gefastet; nach Norden gewandt und den Blick fest dorthin gerichtet, zogen sie weiter — in strenger Selbstzucht und ritueller Reinheit.
