नक्षत्रेषु श्राद्धफलविधानम् (Śrāddha Outcomes According to Nakṣatras)
न देवतानां काचिद्धि समर्था जातवेदस: । एता हि शक्तास्तं गर्भ संधारयितुमोजसा,कारण यह था कि देवांगनाओंमें दूसरी कोई स्त्री अग्नि एवं रुद्रके उस तेजका भरण- पोषण करनेमें समर्थ नहीं थी और ये कृत्तिकाएँ अपनी शक्तिसे उस गर्भको भलीभाँति धारण-पोषण कर सकती थीं
na devatānāṃ kācid dhi samarthā jātavedasaḥ | etā hi śaktās taṃ garbhaṃ sandhārayitum ojasā ||
Bhīṣma sprach: „Unter den himmlischen Frauen war keine imstande, die lodernde Macht des Jātavedas (Agni) zu tragen. Nur diese Kṛttikās besaßen die Kraft, jenen Embryo aus eigener Lebenskraft zu bergen und zu nähren.“
