Pitṛ-śrāddha-haviḥ-phala-nirdeśa

Offerings for Ancestors and Their Stated Results

इन्हीं समस्त कर्मों और गुणोंके कारण देवता तथा ऋषि संसारमें अग्निको हिरण्यरेताके नामसे पुकारते हैं। उस समय अग्निजनित हिरण्य (वसु) धारण करनेके कारण पृथ्वीदेवी वसुमती नामसे विख्यात हुईं ।। स तु गर्भो महातेजा गांगेय: पावकोद्धव: । दिव्यं शरवण्णं प्राप्प ववृधेडद्भुतदर्शन:,अग्निके अंशसे उत्पन्न हुआ गंगाका वह महातेजस्वी गर्भ सरकण्डोंके दिव्य वनमें पहुँचकर बढ़ने और अद्भुत दिखायी देने लगा

etaiḥ samastaiḥ karmabhiḥ guṇaiś ca devā ṛṣayaś ca loke agniṃ hiraṇyaretā iti nāmnā pravadanti | tadā agnijātaṃ hiraṇyaṃ (vasu) dhārayitvā pṛthivīdevī vasumatī iti vikhyātābhavat || sa tu garbho mahātejā gāṅgeyaḥ pāvakodbhavaḥ | divyaṃ śaravaṇṇaṃ prāpya vavṛdhe ’dbhuta-darśanaḥ ||

Bhishma sprach: „Wegen all dieser Taten und Eigenschaften nennen die Götter und Rishis in der Welt Agni mit dem Namen Hiraṇyaretā, ‘der, dessen Same golden ist’. Zu jener Zeit wurde die Erdgöttin, weil sie in sich die goldene Essenz (Vasu) trug, die aus Agni hervorgegangen war, als Vasumatī berühmt, ‘die Reichtümer Besitzende’. Jener überaus strahlende Embryo—Gāṅgeya, aus dem Feuer geboren—gelangte dann in den göttlichen Schilfwald Śaravaṇa und wuchs dort heran, ein wunderbarer Anblick für alle.“
