Pitṛ-śrāddha-haviḥ-phala-nirdeśa
Offerings for Ancestors and Their Stated Results
शेषा: प्रजानां पतय: स्रोतोभ्यस्तस्य जज्ञिरे । ऋषयो रोमकूपेभ्य: स्वेदाच्छन्दो बलान्मन:,शेष प्रजापतिगण उनके श्रवण आदि इन्द्रियोंसे उत्पन्न हुए। रोमकूपोंसे ऋषि, पसीनेसे छन््द और वीर्यसे मनकी उत्पत्ति हुई
śeṣāḥ prajānāṁ patayaḥ srotobhyaḥ tasya jajñire | ṛṣayo romakūpebhyaḥ svedāc chando balān manaḥ ||
Vasiṣṭha sprach: „Die übrigen Herren der Geschöpfe wurden aus seinen leiblichen Kanälen (den Strömen der Sinne) geboren. Aus seinen Haarporen entstanden die Rishis; aus seinem Schweiß die vedischen Metren (chandas); und aus seiner Lebenskraft entstand der Geist (manas).“
वसिष्ठ उवाच
That the constituents of spiritual authority—sages (ṛṣis), sacred metres (chandas), and mind (manas)—are portrayed as arising from the cosmic source, underscoring their sanctity and the ethical duty to align thought and speech with dharma.
Vasiṣṭha is describing a cosmogonic genealogy: various classes of beings and principles are said to originate from different aspects of a primordial being—channels, hair-pores, sweat, and vital potency—mapping the world’s order onto the body of the cosmic source.
