Brāhmaṇa-vandana: Criteria for Veneration, Disciplined Speech, and Protective Kingship (अनुशासनपर्व, अध्याय ८)
पितेव पुत्रान् रक्षेथा ब्राह्म॒णान् धर्मचेतस: । गृहे चैषामवेक्षेथा: किंस्विदस्तीति जीवनम्,राजाको चाहिये कि वह धर्मात्मा ब्राह्मणोंकी उसी तरह रक्षा करे, जैसे पिता पुत्रोंकी करता है। वह सदा इस बातकी देख-भाल करता रहे कि उनके घरमें जीवन-निर्वाहके लिये क्या है और क्या नहीं है
pitā iva putrān rakṣethā brāhmaṇān dharmacetasāḥ | gṛhe ca eṣām avekṣethāḥ kiṃ svid astīti jīvanam ||
Bhīṣma sprach: „Wie ein Vater seine Söhne schützt, so soll ein König Brāhmaṇas mit rechtschaffenem Sinn schützen. Er soll auch über ihre Haushalte wachen und darauf achten, ob sie die Mittel zum Lebensunterhalt haben oder ob ihnen etwas fehlt.“
