गुरुशुश्रूषया शूरा: पितृशुश्रूषयापरे | मातृशुश्रूषया शूरा भैक्ष्यशूरास्तथापरे
bhīṣma uvāca |
guruśuśrūṣayā śūrāḥ pitṛśuśrūṣayāpare |
mātṛśuśrūṣayā śūrā bhaiṣyaśūrās tathāpare ||
Bhishma sprach: „Manche heißen Helden wegen ihres hingebungsvollen Dienstes am Lehrer (Guru); andere wegen des Dienstes am Vater. Manche zeigen ihre Tapferkeit im Dienst an der Mutter, und wieder andere sind ‘Helden’, indem sie von Almosen leben. So zeigt sich Heldentum nicht nur auf dem Schlachtfeld, sondern auch in disziplinierter Pflichterfüllung und Selbstbeherrschung.“
