Gaṅgā-māhātmya: Siddha–Śilavṛtti-saṃvāda and Gaṅgā-stava

Educational Q&A

A guardian has a serious dharmic obligation to arrange a mature daughter’s marriage to a suitable man; willful neglect of this duty is condemned as a grave moral offense, likened to brahmahatyā.

In Bhīṣma’s instruction on dharma (Anuśāsana Parva), he lays down a rule of conduct for householders/guardians, warning that failing to marry off one’s grown daughter to an appropriate bridegroom incurs severe sin.
