Tīrtha-vaṃśa Upadeśa: Instruction on the Fruits of Sacred Waters

Educational Q&A

Sacred learning (the Veda) must not be commercialized, disparaged, or handled with impure motives; treating it as merchandise or undermining its sanctity is presented as a grave adharma with severe karmic consequence.

In Bhīṣma’s instruction on dharma (Anuśāsana Parva), he enumerates condemnable behaviors related to the Vedas—selling them, corrupting/reviling them, and writing mantras for trade—and states the resulting fate as descent to niraya.
