तव पुत्रा दुरात्मान: क्रोधलो भपरायणा: । ईर्ष्याभि भूता दुर्वत्तास्तानू न शोचितुमहसि
tava putrā durātmānaḥ krodha-lobha-parāyaṇāḥ | īrṣyābhibhūtā durvṛttās tān na śocitum arhasi ||
Bhīṣma sprach: „Deine Söhne waren von böser Gesinnung — dem Zorn und der Gier ergeben, von Neid überwältigt und von verderbtem Wandel. Darum sollst du nicht um sie trauern.“
भीष्म उवाच
Bhīṣma links grief and moral responsibility: when ruin follows sustained anger, greed, jealousy, and misconduct, one should recognize the ethical causes and restrain misplaced lamentation, turning instead toward discernment and dharmic reflection.
In Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma instructs the elders on dharma. Here he addresses Dhṛtarāṣṭra, characterizing his sons as dominated by destructive vices and advising him not to mourn them, since their fate is presented as the consequence of their own conduct.
