Anuśāsana-parva 17

बहुधा निन्दित: शर्व: शड्कर: शड्करो5धन: । अमरेशो महादेवो विश्वदेव: सुरारिहा

bahudhā ninditaḥ śarvaḥ śaṅkaraḥ śaṅkaro 'dhanaḥ | amareśo mahādevo viśvadevaḥ surārihā ||

Vāyu sprach: „Obwohl Śarva von Dakṣa und seinen Anhängern auf vielerlei Weise geschmäht wurde, ist er Śarva — der Vernichter zur Zeit der Auflösung; Śaṅkara — der Wohltätige; Śaṅkara wiederum — der seinen Verehrern Freude schenkt; ‘der Besitzlose’ — frei von weltlichem Gut; der Herr selbst der Götter; Mahādeva — der Große Gott, anbetungswürdig sogar für die Gottheiten; die Gottheit, die vom ganzen Universum verehrt wird; und der Bezwinger der Feinde der Götter.“
