स्कन्द: स्कन्दधरो धुर्यो वरदो वायुवाहन: । वासुदेवो बृहद्धानुरादिदेव: पुरंदर:,३२७ स्कन्दः:-स्वामिकार्तिकेयरूप, ३२८ स्कन्दधर:-धर्मपथको धारण करनेवाले, ३२९ धुर्य:-समस्त भूतोंके जन्मादिरूप धुरको धारण करनेवाले, ३३० वरद:-इच्छित वर देनेवाले, ३३१ वायुवाहन:-सारे वायुभेदोंको चलानेवाले, ३३२ वासुदेव:-सब भूतोंमें सर्वात्मारूपसे बसनेवाले, ३३३ बृहद्धानु:-महान् किरणोंसे युक्त एवं सम्पूर्ण जगत्को प्रकाशित करनेवाले सूर्यरूप, ३३४ आदिदेव:-सबके आदिकारण देव, ३३५ पुरंदर:- असुरोंके नगरोंका ध्वंस करनेवाले
skandaḥ skandadharo dhuryo varado vāyuvāhanaḥ | vāsudevo bṛhaddhānur ādidevaḥ puraṃdaraḥ ||
Bhīṣma said: He is Skanda; the bearer of Skanda; the steadfast upholder of the cosmic burden; the giver of boons; the mover and controller of the winds. He is Vāsudeva, the great-armed archer; the primal God; and the destroyer of the strongholds of the demonic—thus is the Lord praised through these many names, each pointing to a facet of divine protection, guidance, and the granting of rightful aims.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse teaches devotional discernment: the One Lord is praised through many epithets, each highlighting a moral and protective function—upholding dharma, sustaining the world’s burden, granting boons in accordance with righteousness, and destroying forces that threaten cosmic order.
In Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira and recites divine names as a form of teaching and praise. This verse is a segment of that litany, presenting a cluster of titles that describe the Lord’s power, beneficence, and guardianship.
