Bhīṣma’s Yogic Departure, Royal Cremation, and Gaṅgā’s Lament (भीष्मस्य योगयुक्त्या देहत्यागः, पितृमेधः, गङ्गाविलापः)
द्वितीयं त्वद्भुतमिदं त्वत्तेज: कृतमद्य वै दृष्टवा च विस्मिता: कृष्ण सा च न: स्मृतिरागता
dvitīyaṃ tv adbhutam idaṃ tvat-tejaḥ-kṛtam adya vai | dṛṣṭvā ca vismitāḥ kṛṣṇa sā ca naḥ smṛtir āgatā ||
Nārada sprach: „O Kṛṣṇa, heute hat sich ein zweites wunderbares Ereignis zugetragen, hervorgebracht durch die strahlende Macht deiner Kraft. Als wir es sahen, waren wir voll Staunen, und es rief uns jene frühere Begebenheit ins Gedächtnis zurück, die mit Śaṅkara (Śiva) verbunden war.“
नारद उवाच
The verse highlights tejas (divine radiance/power) as an ethical-spiritual force that inspires awe and remembrance of sacred precedents; wonder becomes a doorway to recollecting dharmic and divine narratives rather than mere spectacle.
Nārada addresses Kṛṣṇa, stating that a second extraordinary occurrence has just taken place due to Kṛṣṇa’s radiance; witnessing it astonishes the observers and triggers recollection of an earlier incident associated with Śaṅkara (Śiva).
