Shloka 21

भीष्मस्योत्तरायणप्रतीक्षा तथा युधिष्ठिरागमनम् | Bhīṣma’s uttarāyaṇa moment and Yudhiṣṭhira’s arrival

समश्रितानां वरद: शत्रूणामपि धर्मवित्‌ | नीतिज्ञो नीतिसम्पन्नो ब्रह्मवादी जितेन्द्रियः,वे समस्त प्राणियोंको शरण देनेवाले, दीन-दुखियोंके पालनमें तत्पर, शास्त्रज्ञानसम्पन्न, धनवान, सर्वभूतवन्दित, शरणमें आये हुए शत्रुओंको भी वर देनेवाले, धर्मज्ञ, नीतिज्ञ, नीतिमान्‌, ब्रह्मवगादी और जितेन्द्रिय हैं

samaśritānāṁ varadaḥ śatrūṇām api dharmavit | nītijño nītisampanno brahmavādī jitendriyaḥ ||

Er gewährt Gaben allen, die bei ihm Zuflucht suchen, selbst den Feinden, und er versteht das Dharma auch im Umgang mit Gegnern. Kundig in Staatskunst und ganz erfüllt von rechter Lebensführung, kennt und verkündet er das Brahman und hat seine Sinne bezwungen — ein idealer Herrscher und Beschützer, dessen Großmut und moralische Klarheit selbst jene erreicht, die einst gegen ihn standen.
