Anuśāsana-parva 108
न चैकेन परिव्रज्यं न गन्तव्यं तथा निशि । अनागतायां संध्यायां पश्चिमायां गृहे वसेत्
na caikena parivrajyaṁ na gantavyaṁ tathā niśi | anāgatāyāṁ sandhyāyāṁ paścimāyāṁ gṛhe vaset ||
Bhishma sprach: Man soll nicht allein umherstreifen und auch nicht bei Nacht reisen. Ehe die Abenddämmerung einsetzt—zumal wenn im Westen die Düsternis des Sonnenuntergangs heraufzieht—soll man im Hause bleiben. Diese Lehre mahnt zu besonnener Lebensführung: meide einsame Wege und nächtliche Reisen und kehre vor der Dämmerung heim, um Sicherheit und Anstand zu wahren.
भीष्म उवाच
Practice prudent conduct: do not roam alone, avoid traveling at night, and return home before evening twilight. It frames safety and propriety as part of dharma (right conduct).
In the Anushasana Parva, Bhishma is instructing Yudhishthira on dharma and proper behavior. Here he gives a practical rule of conduct concerning travel and timing—counsel meant to prevent danger and uphold disciplined living.
