Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity
आचारलक्षणो धर्म: संतश्षारित्रलक्षणा: । साधूनां च यथावृत्तमेतदाचारलक्षणम्,सदाचार ही धर्मका लक्षण है। सच्चरित्रता ही श्रेष्ठ पुरुषोंकी पहचान है। श्रेष्ठ पुरुष जैसा बर्ताव करते हैं; वही सदाचारका स्वरूप अथवा लक्षण है
Bhīṣma uvāca: ācāra-lakṣaṇo dharmaḥ, santaś cāritra-lakṣaṇāḥ | sādhūnāṃ ca yathā-vṛttam etad ācāra-lakṣaṇam ||
Bhishma sprach: „Dharma wird an rechter Lebensführung (ācāra) erkannt. Die Tugendhaften erkennt man an ihrem guten Charakter. Was die Guten und Disziplinierten im Leben tatsächlich üben — dieses gelebte Verhalten ist genau das, was man ‘angemessene Lebensführung’ nennt, und es ist das Kennzeichen des Dharma.“
