Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity
नोत्सूजेत पुरीषं च क्षेत्रे ग्रामस्य चान्तिके । उभे मूत्रपुरीषे तु नाप्सु कुर्यात् कदाचन,बोये हुए खेतमें, गाँवके आस-पास तथा पानीमें कभी मल-मूत्रका त्याग न करे
notsṛjet purīṣaṃ ca kṣetre grāmasya cāntike | ubhe mūtra-purīṣe tu nāpsu kuryāt kadācana ||
Bhīṣma sprach: Man soll keinen Kot auf einem besäten Feld oder in der Nähe eines Dorfes absetzen; und niemals, zu keiner Zeit, soll man Urin oder Kot ins Wasser lassen.
भीष्म उवाच
Maintain śauca and social responsibility: do not foul cultivated land or areas near habitation, and never contaminate water with urine or feces, since these are shared resources essential for life and ritual purity.
In the Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma is instructing Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma through practical rules of right conduct; here he gives a specific injunction about where one must not relieve oneself.
