Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity
इन्द्रियाणि सकृत्स्पृश्य त्रिरभ्युक्ष्य च मानव: । कुर्वीत पित्र्यं दैवं च वेददृष्टेन कर्मणा
indriyāṇi sakṛt spṛśya trir abhyukṣya ca mānavaḥ | kurvīta pitryaṃ daivaṃ ca vedadṛṣṭena karmaṇā ||
Bhīṣma sprach: „Nachdem man einmal die Sinnesorgane (wie die Augen) berührt und sich dann dreimal mit Wasser besprengt hat, soll man danach die Opfergaben an die Götter und an die Ahnen darbringen, gemäß der von den Veden vorgeschriebenen Handlung.“
भीष्म उवाच
Before undertaking sacred acts, one should observe a brief purification—touching the sense-organs and sprinkling water thrice—and then perform divine and ancestral offerings strictly according to Vedic injunction, emphasizing disciplined, scripture-guided conduct.
In Bhīṣma’s dharma-instruction discourse (Anuśāsana Parva), he lays down a practical rule of ritual preparation and then directs the listener to proceed with deva- and pitṛ-related rites in the Veda-approved manner.
