Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity
परापवाद न ब्रूयान्नाप्रियं च कदाचन । न मन्यु: कश्रिदुत्पाद्य: पुरुषेण भवार्थिना
parāpavādaṁ na brūyān nāpriyaṁ ca kadācana | na manyuḥ kaścid utpādyaḥ puruṣeṇa bhavārthinā ||
Bhishma sprach: Wer sein wahres Wohl sucht, soll niemals Verleumdung über andere aussprechen und zu keiner Zeit harte, unerwünschte Worte reden. Auch soll er durch sein Verhalten bei niemandem Zorn hervorrufen.
भीष्म उवाच
Cultivate disciplined speech: do not slander others, do not speak hurtful words, and do not provoke anger—because one’s welfare is protected by restraint and non-injury through speech.
In the Anushasana Parva, Bhishma continues his instruction on dharma, giving practical ethical guidance; here he emphasizes verbal restraint and avoiding actions that inflame others’ anger.
