Educational Q&A

The verse frames dharma as something that determines one’s posthumous ‘loka’ (destiny/abode). It models a respectful ethical inquiry: a ruler seeks guidance from a recognized knower of dharma rather than presuming entitlement to heaven.

Vasumān introduces himself as Auṣadadri’s son and questions the king he addresses about whether a celebrated heavenly or atmospheric realm awaits him, acknowledging the addressee as an authority on the principles of the other-worldly dharma.
