Speech-Ethics and Forbearance in the Celestial Court
गते वर्षसहस्रे तु शर्मिष्ठा वार्षपर्वणी । ददर्श यौवन प्राप्ता ऋतुं सा चान्वचिन्तयत्,इस प्रकार एक हजार वर्ष व्यतीत हो जानेपर युवावस्थाको प्राप्त हुई वृषपर्वाकी पुत्री शर्मिष्ठाने अपनेको रजस्वलावस्थामें देखा और चिन्तामग्न हो गयी
gate varṣasahasre tu śarmiṣṭhā vārṣaparvaṇī | dadarśa yauvana-prāptā ṛtuṁ sā cānvacintayat ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Als tausend Jahre vergangen waren, erreichte Śarmiṣṭhā, die Tochter Vṛṣaparvans, die Jugend; sie bemerkte, dass ihre „Zeit“ (die Monatsblutung) gekommen war, und versank in ängstliches Nachdenken.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights a life-stage transition—youth and fertility—bringing with it reflection on responsibility, social expectations, and dharma connected with marriage and continuation of lineage in a royal context.
After a long span of time, Śarmiṣṭhā reaches puberty and realizes her menstrual period has begun; she becomes thoughtful and concerned, anticipating the implications for her future and duties.
