Educational Q&A

The verse asserts a strict ethical prohibition: a brahmin who drinks liquor—even through ignorance—falls from dharma and incurs a gravely stigmatized sin, becoming blameworthy in both this life and the next.

Vaiśampāyana delivers a normative declaration (a rule-like pronouncement) about conduct and its karmic/social consequences, emphasizing communal standards and the severe censure attached to surā-drinking for brahmins.
