ययाति–देवयानी संवादः

Yayāti–Devayānī Dialogue and Śukra’s Consent

यः श्रोत्रयोरमृतं संनिषिड्चेद्‌ विद्यामविद्यस्थ यथा ममायम्‌ | त॑ मन्ये5हं पितरं मातरं च तस्मै न द्रहोत्‌ कृतमस्य जानन्‌,“मैं विद्यासे शून्य था, उस दशामें मेरे इन पूजनीय आचार्य जैसे मेरे दोनों कानोंमें मृतसंजीवनी विद्यारूप अमृतकी धारा डाली है, इसी प्रकार जो कोई दूसरे ज्ञानी महात्मा मेरे कानोंमें ज्ञानरूप अमृतका अभिषेक करेंगे, उन्हें भी मैं अपना माता-पिता मानूँगा (जैसे गुरुदेव शुक्राचार्यको मानता हूँ)। गुरुदेवके द्वारा किये हुए उपकारको स्मरण रखते हुए शिष्यको उचित है कि वह उनसे कभी द्रोह न करे

vaiśampāyana uvāca | yaḥ śrotrayor amṛtaṃ saṃniṣiñced vidyām avidyastha yathā mamāyam | taṃ manye 'haṃ pitaraṃ mātaraṃ ca tasmai na drohot kṛtam asya jānan |

„Wer den Nektar des Wissens in die beiden Ohren dessen gießt, der in Unwissenheit steht, wie es dieser verehrungswürdige Lehrer für mich getan hat, den halte ich für Vater und Mutter zugleich. Eingedenk der Wohltat des Guru soll ein Schüler, der es wohl weiß, niemals Verrat an ihm begehen.“

Educational Q&A

Knowledge received from a teacher is a life-giving gift; therefore, the disciple should treat the giver of such knowledge like one’s own parents and must never betray or act with hostility toward the guru, keeping the guru’s benefaction in mind.
