Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the power of consecrated ritual action and focused mantra, while also hinting at an ethical caution: when ritual is driven by anger and revenge, it can escalate conflict and draw wider forces—symbolized by Indra’s involvement—into a morally fraught enterprise.

Janamejaya, already initiated for the sacrifice, becomes intensely agitated and urges the Hotṛ to act at the ritual moment. The Hotṛ invokes through mantras, and Indra (Mahendra) himself comes/sets out in response, signaling divine engagement with the sacrificial proceedings.
