Shloka 19

आदि पर्व, अध्याय ३८ — शमीक-उपदेशः, शाप-संदेशः, तक्षक-प्रसङ्गः (Śamīka’s counsel, the curse-message, and Takṣaka’s approach)

Educational Q&A

A community threatened by a curse seeks liberation through dharmic action: honoring a vowed sage and fulfilling a prescribed duty (offering Jaratkāru in marriage as ‘alms’) is presented as the ethical means to avert collective ruin.

Elāpatra advises Nāga-king Vāsuki that the way to end the Nāgas’ fear arising from a curse is to give their sister Jaratkāru to the ascetic sage Jaratkāru, who lives by begging and strict vows; this marriage is reported as the known remedy for their deliverance.
