अध्याय ३४ — एलापत्रस्योपदेशः
Elāpatra’s Counsel on the Nāgas’ Deliverance
गरुड उवाच किंचित् कारणमुद्दिश्य सोमो5यं नीयते मया । न दास्यामि समादातुं सोमं कस्मैचिदप्यहम्,गरुडने कहा--स्वर्गके सम्राट् सहस्राक्ष! किसी कारणवश मैं यह अमृत ले जाता हूँ। इसे किसीको भी पीनेके लिये नहीं दूँगा। मैं स्वयं जहाँ इसे रख दूँ, वहाँसे तुरंत तुम उठा ले जा सकते हो
garuḍa uvāca kiñcit kāraṇam uddiśya somo 'yaṃ nīyate mayā | na dāsyāmi samādātuṃ somaṃ kasmaicid apy aham |
Garuḍa sprach: „Aus einem bestimmten Grund trage ich diesen Soma fort. Ich werde diesen Soma niemandem zu trinken geben. Doch wo immer ich ihn selbst niederlege, von eben dort kannst du ihn sogleich an dich nehmen.“
गरुड उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined intention and ethical restraint: even when possessing a powerful boon (Soma/nectar), Garuḍa refuses to distribute it for consumption, indicating control over desire and adherence to a specific purpose rather than opportunistic use.
Garuḍa declares that he is taking Soma for a particular reason and will not allow anyone to drink it; however, he permits that once he sets it down, it may be taken away immediately from that place—showing a conditional concession while maintaining his vow and objective.
