Elāpatra’s Counsel on the Nāgas’ Deliverance

Educational Q&A

Even when a promise or concession is made, higher guardians of cosmic order may intervene to prevent misuse of what is not meant for ordinary possession. The verse highlights conditionality in boons and the priority of maintaining divine order over individual gain.

Indra agrees with Garuḍa’s words, then warns that he will reclaim the amṛta the moment Garuḍa sets it down. Indra leaves, and Garuḍa quickly goes back to his mother, continuing the amṛta episode.
