तपस्तप्त्वा व्रतपरा स्नाता पुंसवने शुचि: । उपचक्राम भर्तारें तामुवाचाथ कश्यप:,उग्रश्रवाजी कहते हैं--इसी समय शुभलक्षणा दक्षकन्या कल्याणमयी विनता देवी, जो उत्तम यशसे सुशोभित थी, पुत्रकी कामनासे तपस्यापूर्वक ब्रह्मचर्य-व्रतका पालन करने लगी। ऋतुकाल आनेपर जब वह स्नान करके शुद्ध हुई, तब अपने स्वामीकी सेवामें गयी। उस समय कश्यपजीने उससे कहा--
tapas taptvā vrataparā snātā puṃsavane śuciḥ | upacakrāma bhartāraṃ tām uvācātha kaśyapaḥ ||
Nachdem sie Askese geübt und unbeirrbar ihr Gelübde gehalten hatte, trat Vinatā — nach dem Bad zur Zeit des puṃsavana-Ritus rituell rein — in den Dienst ihres Gemahls. Da redete Kaśyapa zu ihr.
शौनक उवाच

Vinatā, desiring children, undertakes austerities and a vow; when the appropriate time and purification are complete, she approaches her husband Kaśyapa in service, and he begins to speak to her, initiating the next development in the account of her obtaining offspring.
