The verse highlights the dharmic impulse to protect those who depend on us—especially one’s children—and shows how genuine responsibility expresses itself as urgent concern for their safety when their refuge is insecure.
The speaker, distressed for the sake of his children, addresses Lapitā and asks how his young ones can remain safe in their shelter (the nest), indicating an imminent danger to their place of protection.
