Adhyāya 203 — Tilottamā-sṛṣṭiḥ
Creation and Commissioning of Tilottamā
The verse highlights that speech is ethically evaluated not only by content but by intention (bhāva). A biased or hostile inner motive (bhāva-doṣa) can distort judgment and turn critique into mere fault-finding.
Droṇa rebukes an interlocutor who is criticizing his words. He asserts that the criticism is not sincere but motivated by malice and animosity connected with the Pāṇḍavas, and therefore amounts to contrived accusation rather than fair assessment.
