इहैव वर्तमानास्ते समीपे तव पार्थिव । अजातपक्षा: शिशव: शकिता नैव बाधितुम्,वीर! पहले भी तुमने अनेक गुप्त उपायोंद्वारा पाण्डवोंको दबानेकी चेष्टा की है, परंतु उनपर तुम्हारा वश नहीं चल सका। भूपाल! वे जब बच्चे थे और यहीं तुम्हारे पास रहते थे, उस समय उनके पक्षमें कोई नहीं था, तब भी तुम उन्हें बाधा पहुँचानेमें सफल न हो सके
ihaiva vartamānās te samīpe tava pārthiva | ajātapakṣāḥ śiśavaḥ śakitā naiva bādhitum ||
Karna sprach: „Selbst als sie hier, ganz in deiner Nähe, o König, lebten—nur Kinder, deren ‚Flügel‘ noch nicht gewachsen waren, ohne stützende Partei—warst du nicht imstande, ihnen zu schaden oder sie niederzuhalten. Auch früher hast du viele geheime Ränke versucht, um die Pāṇḍavas klein zu halten, doch du konntest sie nicht unter deine Kontrolle bringen.“
