Ādi Parva, Adhyāya 186 — Drupada’s Summons and the Pāñcāla Reception

कन्दर्पषबाणाभिनिपीडिताड्रा: कृष्णागतैस्ते हृदयैनरिन्द्रा: । रड्भावतीर्णा द्रुपदात्मजार्थ द्वेषं प्रचक्रु: सुहदो5पि तत्र,कामदेवके बाणोंकी चोटसे उनके सभी अंगोंमें निरन्तर पीड़ा हो रही थी। उनका मन द्रौपदीमें ही लगा हुआ था। द्रुपदकुमारीको पानेके लिये रंगभूमिमें उतरे हुए वे सभी नरेश वहाँ अपने सुहृद्‌ राजाओंसे भी ईर्ष्या करने लगे

Vaiśampāyana uvāca |

kandarpaśarābhinipīḍitādrāḥ kṛṣṇāgataiḥ te hṛdayair narendrāḥ |

raṅgāvatīrṇā drupadātmajārthaṃ dveṣaṃ pracakruḥ suhṛdo 'pi tatra ||

Vaiśampāyana sprach: Von Kāmas Pfeilen gepeinigt, litten jene Könige unablässig Qual. Ihre Herzen waren ganz zu Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) hingezogen. Als sie die Arena betraten, um Drupadas Tochter zu gewinnen, begannen sie dort Eifersucht zu nähren—selbst gegen ihre eigenen befreundeten Verbündeten—und zeigten, wie Begierde Gemeinschaft und Selbstzucht zersetzt.
