The Pāṇḍavas’ Journey toward Pāñcāla and News of the Svayaṃvara

The verse highlights the brāhmaṇa ideal of kṣamā (forbearance) and restraint: even when wronged, Vasiṣṭha frames his response through non-violence and patience, contrasting moral self-control with coercive power.
Nandinī cries out repeatedly as she is being taken away by force. Vasiṣṭha acknowledges her distress and states that Viśvāmitra is abducting her, while he himself—committed to the patient brāhmaṇa way—does not respond with violent force.
