The verse foregrounds the importance of truthful self-identification and lineage in dharmic society: one’s duties, alliances, and marriage suitability are assessed through clear declaration of name, parentage, and status, here elevated by divine descent from Savitṛ.
A Gandharva speaks in the voice of Tapati, introducing her to a kṣatriya hero with honorifics, stating her name and that she is the younger daughter of Sāvinatrī and the daughter of Savitṛ, the Sun, described as the ‘lamp of the world.’
