This line functions as a colophon rather than a doctrinal verse: it teaches the reader how the epic is organized—by parva, sub-parva, and adhyāya—and signals the completion of the Tapatī episode within the Caitraratha section.
The narrative action pauses: the text formally announces that the 170th chapter—centered on the Tapatī-upākhyāna—has concluded within Ādi Parva’s Caitraratha portion, preparing the transition to the next chapter or episode.
