Aurva’s Containment of the Wrath-Fire
तया बद्धमनश्षक्षुः पाशैर्गुणमयैस्तदा । न चचाल ततो देशाद् बुबुधे न च किंचन,उस कन्याने उस समय अपने उत्तम गुणमय पाशोंसे राजाके मन और नेत्रोंको बाँध लिया। वे अपने स्थानसे हिल-डुलतक न सके। उन्हें किसी बातकी सुध-बुध (भी) न रही
tayā baddhamanaś cakṣuḥ pāśair guṇamayais tadā | na cacāla tato deśād bubudhe na ca kiṃcana ||
Da band sie mit ihren Fesseln—aus betörenden Tugenden gewoben—des Königs Geist und Blick. Er vermochte sich von jener Stelle nicht zu rühren und erwachte zu nichts anderem; jedes Bewusstsein dessen, was um ihn geschah, ging ihm verloren.
गन्धर्व उवाच
The verse highlights how fascination and attachment—here portrayed as “bonds made of qualities”—can capture the mind and senses, leading to loss of discernment and freedom of action. Ethically, it warns that unexamined attraction can suspend judgment and make one passive to what is right or prudent.
A maiden’s captivating qualities metaphorically act like snares that bind the king’s mind and gaze. As a result, he cannot move from the place and becomes oblivious to everything else, indicating complete absorption and loss of situational awareness.
