Vasiṣṭhasya śokaḥ, Vipāśā–Śatadrū-nāmākaraṇam, Kalmāṣapādasya bhaya-prasaṅgaḥ (Ādi Parva 167)

स हि ब्राह्मणवेषेण क्षात्रं वेगमसंशयम्‌ | प्रतिहन्ति महेष्वासो भारद्वाजो महामना:,“ट्रोणाचार्यके बाणसमूह प्राणियोंके शरीरका संहार करनेवाले हैं। उनका छः हाथका लंबा धनुष बहुत बड़ा दिखायी देता है। इसमें संदेह नहीं कि महान्‌ धनुर्धर महामना द्रोण ब्राह्मण-वेशमें (अपने ब्राह्मतेजके द्वारा) क्षत्रिय-तेजको प्रतिहत कर देते हैं

sa hi brāhmaṇaveṣeṇa kṣātraṃ vegam asaṃśayam | pratihanti maheṣvāso bhāradvājo mahāmanāḥ ||

Denn in der Verkleidung eines brāhmaṇa zügelt und bezwingt jener große Bogenschütze—Drona aus der Linie Bhāradvājas, ein Mann von hohem Sinn—ohne Zweifel den stürmischen Antrieb kshatriyischer Macht. Der Vers hebt eine moralische Spannung hervor: äußere Erscheinung und gesellschaftliche Rolle können von innerer Kraft abweichen, und geistige oder intellektuelle Potenz vermag bloße kriegerische Aggression zu bändigen.
