Kalmāṣapāda’s Encounter with Śakti and the Escalation of the Vasiṣṭha–Viśvāmitra Feud
droṇa uvāca astrāṇi caiva sarvāṇi teṣāṁ saṁhāram eva ca | prayogaṁ caiva sarveṣāṁ dātum arhati me bhavān ||
Power must be learned together with control: knowledge of astras is incomplete without knowing their saṁhāra (withdrawal). The verse highlights ethical responsibility—mastery includes restraint, safe procedure, and the ability to end harm.
Droṇa respectfully petitions his teacher to transmit the full science of weapons: not only the astras themselves, but also their practical deployment (prayoga) and the method to recall or neutralize them (saṁhāra).
