Drupada’s Putrakāmeṣṭi: The Sacrificial Birth of Dhṛṣṭadyumna and Kṛṣṇā
वैशम्पायन उवाच तथेति तत् प्रतिज्ञाय हिडिम्बा राक्षसी तदा । भीमसेनमुपादाय सोर्ध्वमाचक्रमे तत:,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! तब “ऐसा ही होगा” यह प्रतिज्ञा करके हिडिम्बा राक्षसी भीमसेनको साथ ले वहाँसे ऊपर आकाशमें उड़ गयी
Vaiśampāyana uvāca: tatheti tat pratijñāya Hiḍimbā rākṣasī tadā | Bhīmasenam upādāya sordhvam ācakrame tataḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Nachdem die Rākṣasī Hiḍimbā gelobt hatte: „So sei es“, nahm sie Bhīmasena mit sich und erhob sich von dort in den Himmel.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical weight of pratijñā (a pledged word): once given, it should be honored through prompt action. Even in a context involving a rākṣasī, the narrative stresses commitment and follow-through as a form of dharmic reliability.
Hiḍimbā agrees to the stated condition (“tathā”) and formally promises it. She then physically takes Bhīmasena and ascends upward into the sky, marking a swift transition to the next scene through her supernatural ability.
