Kuntī and the Brahmin: Inquiry into the Root of Suffering

Educational Q&A

When faced with adharma and lethal treachery, preserving life through foresight and disciplined action can be a dharmic necessity. The verse highlights prudent self-protection without needless aggression, emphasizing restraint, planning, and responsibility toward one’s dependents (here, the mother).

As the house is set ablaze, the Pāṇḍavas, along with their mother, swiftly enter the prepared underground tunnel. The fire intensifies, and its loud crackling confirms the building is burning fiercely while they escape unseen.
