The Burning of the Lac House and the Pāṇḍavas’ Concealed Escape

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how alliances form around influential figures, revealing tensions between kinship-based loyalty and the counsel or gravitas of elders. It invites reflection on dharma: whether one stands by mere factional attachment or by considered judgment of right conduct and rightful leadership.

The Kaurava party positions itself on the side where Karṇa stands, while the senior warriors—Droṇa (called Bhāradvāja), Kṛpa, and Bhīṣma—stand on the side where Arjuna (Pārtha) is. The scene describes the physical and symbolic division of forces and supporters.
