Adhyāya 125: Raṅga-pradarśana — Arjuna’s Entry and Astric Demonstration (रङ्गप्रदर्शनम्)

जलस्थानैश्व विविधै: पप्मिनीभिश्न शोभितम्‌ | पाण्डोर्वनं तत्‌ सम्प्रेक्ष्य प्रजज्ञे हूदि मन्मथ:,पलाश, तिलक, आम, चम्पा, पारिभद्रक तथा और भी बहुत-से वृक्ष फल-फूलोंकी समृद्धिसे भरे हुए थे, जो उस वनकी शोभा बढ़ा रहे थे। नाना प्रकारके जलाशयों तथा कमलोंसे सुशोभित उस वनकी मनोहर छटा देखकर राजा पाण्डुके मनमें कामका संचार हो गया

jalasthānaiś ca vividhaiḥ padminībhiś ca śobhitam | pāṇḍor vanaṃ tat samprekṣya prajajñe hṛdi manmathaḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana sprach: Geschmückt mit mancherlei Wasserstellen und verschönt durch teichvolle Lotusbecken, erschien jener Wald überaus anmutig. Als König Pāṇḍu ihn erblickte, erhob sich in seinem Herzen das Begehren (Kāma) — ein Zeichen dafür, wie der Geist, von sinnlicher Lust in schöner Umgebung aufgewühlt, selbst einen disziplinierten Menschen zur Leidenschaft und ihren Folgen treiben kann.
