Āstravidyā-Pradarśana: The Kuru Princes’ Public Demonstration of Arms (आस्त्रविद्या-प्रदर्शनम्)
yadi tv apatyasantānaṃ kuntīrājasutā mayi | kuryād anugraho me sthāt tava cāpi hitaṃ bhavet ||
The verse frames progeny and continuity of lineage as a significant social and ethical good, presented as an act of mutual benefit: helping to secure descendants is described as a ‘favor’ (anugraha) that also advances another’s welfare (hita).
A speaker (reported by Vaiśaṃpāyana) proposes that if Kuntī, the daughter of the King of Kuntī, can produce offspring through him, it would be a great kindness to him and would also benefit the addressed person—indicating a concern for securing descendants and the future of a line.
