Adhyāya 123 — Droṇa’s Pedagogy: Arjuna’s Preeminence, Ekalavya’s Self-Training, and the Bhāsa-Lakṣya Trial

विहस्य तां ततो ब्रूया: कुन्ति कि ते ददाम्यहम्‌ । सा त॑ विहस्यमानापि पुत्र देहुब्रवीदिदम्‌,तब धर्मने हँसकर कहा--“कुन्ती! बोलो, तुम्हें क्या दूँ?” धर्मके द्वारा हास्यपूर्वक इस प्रकार पूछनेपर कुन्ती बोली--*मुझे पुत्र दीजिये”

vihasya tāṁ tato brūyāḥ: kunti ki te dadāmy aham | sā taṁ vihasyamānāpi putra dehūbravīd idam ||

Vaiśampāyana sprach: Lächelnd sagte er zu ihr: „Kuntī, was soll ich dir geben?“ Obwohl er es mit heiterem Lächeln fragte, erwiderte Kuntī: „Schenke mir einen Sohn.“
