Pāṇḍu’s Funeral Rites and Public Mourning
वर्तमान: सुखे दु:खं यथाहं प्रापितस्त्वया । तथा त्वां च सुखं प्राप्त दु:खमभ्यागमिष्यति,मैं सुखमें मग्न था, तथापि तुमने जिस प्रकार मुझे दुःखमें डाल दिया, उसी प्रकार तुम भी जब प्रेयसी पत्नीके संयोग-सुखका अनुभव करोगे, उसी समय तुम्हारे ऊपर दुःख टूट पड़ेगा
vartamānaḥ sukhe duḥkhaṃ yathāhaṃ prāpitas tvayā | tathā tvāṃ ca sukhaṃ prāptaṃ duḥkham abhyāgamiṣyati ||
Der Hirsch sprach: „So wie ich, im Wohlleben, von dir ins Leid gestoßen wurde, so wird auch dich das Leid heimsuchen, wenn du das Glück erlangst — in dem Augenblick, da du die Wonne der Vereinigung mit deiner geliebten Gattin erfährst.“
मृग उवाच
Harm inflicted on an innocent being rebounds as suffering for the doer; pleasure gained or anticipated through wrongdoing is shadowed by karmic consequence, often striking at the very point of attachment and enjoyment.
A deer addresses the one who has caused it pain, declaring a curse-like warning: as the deer was pushed from comfort into misery, so the aggressor too will be struck by sorrow precisely when he is enjoying conjugal happiness with his beloved wife.
