Pāṇḍu’s Gifts, Forest Residence, and Vidura’s Marriage
यस्य पुत्रा महेष्वासा जज्ञिरे पज्च पाण्डवा: | ऋतुकाले ततो ज्येष्ठां वधूं तस्मै न्ययोजयत्,यह वही बालक था, जिसके पुत्र महाधनुर्धारी पाँच पाण्डव हुए। इसके बाद ऋतुकाल आनेपर सत्यवतीने अपनी बड़ी बहू अम्बिकाको पुनः व्यासजीसे मिलनेके लिये नियुक्त किया
yasya putrā maheṣvāsā jajñire pañca pāṇḍavāḥ | ṛtukāle tato jyeṣṭhāṁ vadhūṁ tasmai nyayojayat |
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Aus eben jenem Kind gingen die fünf Pāṇḍavas hervor, gewaltige Bogenschützen. Danach, als die rechte Zeit gekommen war, bestimmte Satyavatī erneut ihre ältere Schwiegertochter Ambikā, Vyāsa zu begegnen, damit die königliche Kuru-Linie fortgeführt werde.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the tension between personal discomfort and public duty: preserving the kingdom’s lineage is treated as a dharmic necessity, leading Satyavatī to arrange niyoga despite its ethical and emotional complexity.
The narrator identifies the child (born from Vyāsa’s earlier union) as the one from whom the five Pāṇḍavas later arise, and then states that Satyavatī, at the appropriate time, sends her elder daughter-in-law Ambikā again to Vyāsa to secure heirs for the Kuru line.
